Seasons Grande Day 30

Seasons Grande is owned by Pete & Vicki Wilhelm who are local residents of Baden.  It was purchased from the Egli brothers whose business thrived in our community for 37 years and reopened under the new name, Seasons Grande on August 2012.  Egli’s meats were supporters of the community; in fact remember as a kid they sponsored my hockey team back when I was 12 years old.  It’s nice to see as you look at all the products in the store, that Pete and Vicki are big supporters of local businesses.

Seasons Grande is located at 162 Snyders Road E Baden, Ontario.

Have you ever had “Disco Fries”? Day 22

Ryan Smolkin, a business graduate from Wilfred Laurier University, started the first Smoke’s Poutinerie in Toronto, and now the franchise has over 10 locations in Ontario,  including Waterloo!  The store is open from 11am to 3am on Thursday and 11 am to 4am on Friday and Saturday.  They have over 20 different types of poutine including Nacho Grande, Bacon Cheeseburger and Curry Chicken poutine.

Here is some interesting facts about poutine  you probably didn’t know….

It is widely accepted that poutine’s origin comes from Quebec and was invented after a trucker asked Fernand LaChance to add cheese curds to his fries in Warwick, Quebec.

Every year there is the Smoke’s Poutine eating Championship.  Contestants will have to beat the 2010-11 champion, Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti who set a record eating 13 pounds of poutine in 10 minutes!

Poutine is Quebec slang for “a mess”

In 1970s New York and New Jersey, poutine was served as a late-night side dish at clubs. They called it “disco fries.”

The largest poutine in the world was made in Saguenay, Que., and weighed 654 kg—about as much as a large horse.

Considered the most expensive poutine in Montreal, the poutine au foie gras is available for $23 at Au Pied de Cochon

Do you Believe in Magic! Day 13

Kind of Magic is one of the largest magic stores in Canada located right here in Waterloo.  The  store  used to be located on King Street Kitchener and now has just expanded taking on Seams Like Magic and Mavis Theatrical, making this a 3 in 1 store, where you can go to find all your magic, costume, and juggling supplies.  Kind of Magic helps  the Stratford Festival, Cirque du Soleil, the CBC and other production companies with face and body art supplies.

The staff is extremely helpful and friendly and you can tell they really enjoy what they do.  I had a blast and left the store with a smile on my face.  I will definitely come back here.

The 4500 sq. Ft store is located on 321 Weber St N.  Waterloo   www.kwmagic.com
